Butternut Squash Soup

I love smoked pulled pork that is slowly cooked over a fire. The problem is, keeping a fire going for 8 hours straight while making sure it never gets too hot is very labor intensive. And it uses a lot of wood, so I tend to only use this method when I am cooking several pork shoulders or other smoked items for a party. The rest of the time I use my gas grill. Obviously, you can't get the same smoky flavor from a gas grill that you get from a fire, so I came up with a few substitutions to help me get that smoky flavor that I love.

First, when I made these in the oven, I expected the breading to be crispy; like it would be with things like popcorn chicken or shrimp. It wasn't. The first piece of popcorn fish I picked up fell right apart and there was no crunchiness at all.

Make sure when you are buying toasters that you buy one for yourself. After all you need to eat breakfast too. Breakfast is very important to a healthy diet and you can't have a complete breakfast without toast. You should chicken paprikash never skip breakfast. The first meal of the day should also be your largest. This is the meal that gives you the energy to make it through the day. It is also important to eat a certain amount of carbohydrates every day. You can get your carbohydrates from toasted bread.

First, I use smoked sea salt. This is natural sea salt that has been dried over a smoky fire. People who cook on gas grills really ought to try this amazing product, since it adds a great smoky flavor to food without fire. I also use smoked black pepper and paprika chicken in crock pot, although those two don't add nearly as much smoky flavor as the smoked sea salt does. All three of these products can be found online, from many different spice suppliers. I also find that cumin has a naturally smoky flavor, so I often use it liberally in recipes for items that would traditionally be smoked.

When it came to taste, these weren't terrible. But, again, they weren't great either. As my wife described them, they had a bit more of a strong "fishy" taste to them than other brands we have purchased (something we've noticed with other products from this brand). And, when we bit into the popcorn fish, we couldn't help but notice the meat inside looked like it had been ground up and mashed together rather than the company simply using an actual piece of fish.

I keep looking in awe at the beautiful gold-leaf chocolate icons on the dark wooden shelf. I don't know if I could bring myself to eat these works of art - Buddhas, the Virgin Mary, Guan Yin, the Sacred Heart, and a wide variety of symbols that speak to me of all the secrets Portland holds. But I know I wouldn't eat them alone. I envision sitting down with friends to eat our gods for dessert, and I smile. Sometimes, divinity is pretty simple.
